Keene State is the only secondary English education program in New Hampshire to receive National Recognition status by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

Reviewers from these organizations analyzed three years of assessment data collected on our English teacher candidates as well as our own report and reflection on the data. Based on their analysis, they designated our program as Nationally Recognized through 2024. This recognition reflects the English Department’s commitment to providing our English and Secondary Education majors with a thorough grounding in English literature.

Not only did 100% of our candidates pass their English teacher certification examination last year, but they also submitted portfolios demonstrating expertise in the wide range of literature needed for middle and high school classrooms. In addition, our candidates demonstrated expertise both in planning and delivering English curriculum to their students. And they continue that work. Our now-alums have begun jobs as English teachers in middle and high schools from Keene, New Hampshire to Maine to Florida.
